The Third Trip to the Longwood Gardens

October 11-13th, 2015

This is the third trip to Pennsylvania this year. The first visit was for spending weekends at a KOA campground with my friend’s family in Philadelphia. There we enjoyed fishing, campfire and sight seeing. In the second morning we went to the Longwood Gardens just 15 minutes distance by car from our campground. It was awesome and unrealistic.

I visited this garden two weeks later when my parents-in-law visited Boston. They also loved this garden so much.

When I wanted to spend a weekends with my friend's family who recently arrived at New York, I thought Pennsylvania will be the best place because of the nice campground and the Longwood Gardens. My friend's kids are still too young to travel for a long time and they seem to love natural environment. And I thought my friend's couple could be relaxed when they are left to the nature.

But the weather forecasting was pessimistic; all the weekends there would be raining. It was cloudy when my family and I left Boston. As time went on, it rained much. But at the right time we arrived at the campground, the rain stopped fortunately. The weather forecasting was also changed; it would be sunny the next day.

I met my friend and his family around 6 PM and enjoyed BBQ party and campfire. They loved and enjoyed what my wife and I prepared for them. My friend told his settlement episodes. He seemed to have hard times to adopt the New York life.

In the next morning we went to the Longwood Gardens. The sky was clear and sunny. I could not find any big cloud. In front of the gate, there were beautiful decorations of pumpkins. From the gate they enjoyed the gardens. The kids were excited to be able to run on a big lawn. My friend's couple could enjoy the beautiful autumn gardens.

The autumn scene of the garden was somewhat different from the scene of the first visit. This time the garden seems to have various seasons-Spring, summer, and autumn. Plenty of flowers and plants occupied indoor garden, chrysanthemums and autumn leaves occupied outdoor garden. There was special exhibition of water lilies in the center of indoor garden that was opened to the air. The water lilies were really unrealistically and incredibly awesome. I could see a great water lily trees from which water lily flowers and various sizes of leaves grow. The biggest leaf seems to be above 1.5 meter in diameter. Ornamental peppers and Monarch butterfly were also very impressive.

We spent all the day at the garden.

After we retuned to the campground, we had a dinner eating Korean traditional chicken dish called samgyetang. We enjoyed the night with the dishes, Samuel Adams, campfires, marshmallow, and talks.

In the last morning we said goodbye each other. Maybe we could meet again during Thanks Giving Holidays in Boston. At that time I would go to the Cape Cod, Walden Pond, and the MFA.
